Gibson today announced yet another handsome addition to its small but illustrious Inspired By series of Custom Shop guitars–the new Limited Edition John Lennon Les Paul.
The guitar, which will be produced in a very limited run of just 300 instruments, is a replica of the rather substantially modified early model Les Paul Junior that Lennon used extensively during his solo career in the 1970s, including his famous benefit concert at Madison Square Garden.
Like the guitar that it’s based on, the Inspired By John Lennon Les Paul has apparently been heavily re-routed to accommodate a Charlie Christian pickup at the neck position, in addition to the traditional bridge position P-90.
Other features unique to the instrument include a bare mahogany body–Lennon had the original Tobacco Sunburst finish sanded right down to the wood–a tune-o-matic bridge with the stopbar tailpiece shifted back, 3-way Switchcraft pickup switch, Schaller tuners (for improved tuning stability,) and a custom modified pickguard to accommodate the extra pickup.
The guitar will also ship with a Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case, a certificate of authenticity, a print of John Lennon signed by artist Allison Lefcort, and a custom care kit. Serial numbers will run LENNON 001-300
